Long term visa (visa D)
Long term visa remains in the competence of Slovenian national law. Applications must be submitted to the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia. Long-stay visa (type D) is issued for a period from 90 days up to maximum one year.
Visa applications have to be submitted at least one month before the day of departure but no more than three months before the start of the intended visit.
Visa D can be issued to:
Close family member of Slovenian citizen/EU citizen that wants to enter the country with intention of reuniting with the family
Diplomats and administrative-technical personnel and their family members as defined in article 47 that are arriving to Slovenia to take their posts as members of diplomatic mission or consulate of foreign country or international organization with seat in Republic of Slovenia or as personal staff of diplomats.
Members of courses, studies or other similar forms of education (such as language courses, summer schools) in length of at least 3 months and 1 year at most.
Economists and businessmen with interest for economic cooperation with Republic of Slovenia.
Researchers, employees in higher education with interest for cooperation with Republic of Slovenia in the field of higher education and science.
Artists and cultural workers.
Sport trainers, professional athletes or private sport workmen, that intend to sign employment contract or cooperation contract with club or sport organization with seat in Republic of Slovenia.
Reporters of foreign media or foreign correspondents.
Priests and other persons practicing clerical profession as members of registered religious community and foreigners, organizing or leading charitable and humanitarian activities as part of acknowledged humanitarian organization or registered religious community.
Obligatory documents to be submitted for visa D issuance:
Filled-in application for a national visa type D. Attached please find the form (https://www.gov.si/assets/ministrstva/MZZ/Dokumenti/konzularne-zadeve/oddelek-za-vize/vloga_za_dolgorocni_vizum_SI-EN.pdf ).
Valid passport (the passport needs to be valid at least three months after your stay in Slovenia).
Recent photo, size 45 mm x 35 mm (intact, clear and of good quality).
Travel medical insurance, which covers medical costs and repatriation to a sum of at least 30 000 EUR for the entire period of visa validity.
Certified and officially translated certificate of non-criminal record, which cannot be older than 3 months.
Proof of sufficient means of subsistence (amounting to at least the basic minimum income which is currently set at 402,18 EUR monthly).
Additional specific documents proving the purpose of long-term stay:
Family reunification: evidence of marriage - extract from Slovenian registry) or evidence of extramarital community (statement of both partners that they live together at least 2 years, verified by notary or competent authority in home country and signed by 2 witnesses or document verifying extramarital community in accordance with local law)
For diplomats and administrative-technical personnel: diplomatic note of Ministry of Foreign Affairs with data about their posts and eventual family members travelling with diplomats and own diplomatic or official passport.
For studies, courses and other similar forms of education: evidence of eventual scholarship, course subscription etc.
For economists and businessmen: written opinion of the Ministry for Economic Development and Technology of Slovenia.
Researchers and employees in higher education: written opinion of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of Slovenia.
Artists and cultural workers: written opinion of the Ministry of Culture of Slovenia.
Sport trainers, professional athletes or private sport workmen: evidence from club/sport organization in Slovenia that will employ athlete/trainer (register of sportsmen); evidence of status of professional athlete or sport trainer from competent sport organization in home country.
Reporters of foreign media or foreign correspondents: written attestation from media house of assignment in Slovenia; valid press card.
Priests and other persons practicing clerical profession as members of registered religious community and foreigners, organizing or leading charitable and humanitarian activities: written attestation from religious institution/humanitarian organization from home country of assignment in Slovenia (stating date of arrival and length of stay in Slovenia); written attestation of competent religious institution/humanitarian organization in RS stating time of arrival, length of stay and type of activity in RS.
If receiving financial support from parents or other person you have to submit:
signed and notarized statement of support - statement must list the duration of support (whole stay in Slovenia) and the monthly amount the parent/person will be providing to applicant.
evidence of employment for parent/other person - original letter from employer and paychecks for most recent 3 months or 3 most recent bank statements showing regular deposits.
If employed you have to submit:
- evidence of employment – original letter from employer.
- paychecks for most recent 3 months or 3 most recent bank statements showing regular deposits.
Visa Consular fee
Consular fee for the visa "D" is around JPY 9410 (please note, that due to the currency fluctuations, this amount might be slightly changed; the fees are adapted monthly based on the fluctuations). No consular fee applies in the case of family reunification. The fee is determined by the Slovenian Administrative Fees Act.
Consular tax is to be payed in cash or via bank transfer to the Embassy's bank account. In the latter case the Embassy will proceeed with the application only after the bank confirms the transfer to the Embassy.
